Cathy Sucks Really Bad!!!

Cathy Roller is a skank.  She has STD’s and is really gross.  She does drugs and drinks everyday.  Cathy is in my class and she is the worst student.  She always asks stupid questions and disrupts the lesson in her drunkenness.  She also smells really bad because I don’t think she has taken a shower in weeks.  Someone should tell her to go and get a job.

She was cheating off of me on the test one time.

Cathy is so fat I think she is going to explode.  She is always eating during class.

Blog Posts I like

In no particular order:

1.  I liked Rachel’s interview with Prof. Josh Adams.  I think it was very interesting to hear some background on Prof. Adams and his views on the industry.  The blog was not without technical issues but they did not prevent me from enjoying the interview.

2. Jake did a review on Star Craft 2.  It was fun to watch all the different posters he used to block his face.  The idea of an review without any speaking is a cool idea too.  I wish there had been more on why Jake likes the game so much.  But overall it was fun to watch although not that informative about Star Craft 2.

3. I enjoyed reading Nicks editorial on smoking or was it a review on an editorial?  Anyway it was an interesting read and was so long as to loose my attention.  I find that I lose attention often when blog posts are too long.  It was neat and organized too which was nice.

4. The photo essay by Matt was a good quality post.  I liked the pictures and the comments and how they flowed easily into a photo essay.  There were just the right amount of pictures and text to make it an overall good post.

5. Lastly, I enjoyed Cathy’s post on the local performer Joe Driscoll.  The post was informative and interesting especially because it was about someone from the local area.  The youtube video was also a nice addition to the text portion of the post.

WEB BEHAVIOR TEST: The test results said that I was an octopus.  This means I am a fast moving internet user and am independant.  I guess the results of the test are accurate for the most part.  I do sometimes spend alot of time reading search results so the test is not 100% accurate.  I didn’t like the test very much because it moved to slowly.  By the end of the test I losy much of my drive to give good comprehensive feedback.  However some of the test was interesting and worthy of an academic study.

CHRIS ANDERSON: He talks about how sites like Amazon help make recomendations for you based on your search history.  He compares this to a clerk in a real store helping you find something.  Furhtermore he says most people are comfortable with this kind of “over the shoulder help”.  He also talks about Google in terms of the results one gets.  He explains that there are the regular results as well as the advertisments.  Both of these reuslts will become more specific as the search terms become more specific.  The main concern addressed in this interview is if Google and other sites having so much information on their users is a bad thing.  Anderson says it is not a bad thing because it will help you better find what you are looking for.  He also says you can choose to search anonamously on sites like amazon.  Another interesting point discussed is using itunes to purchase music for its convienence instead of hunting around for free music torrents.  Anderson says since he is older he would rather just pay the 99 cents instead of spending the time searching for free music.  This interview has much relevance to me considering I use all the sites discussed.  He makes alot of sense in how he describes the internet as a global exchange of ideas and suchlike.  I personally think Amazon is a good site and am willing to give information in order to better my experience.  As far as the music downloading goes I am inclined to use torrents until music is cheaper. DEVO Concert Photo Essay

This is a photo essay regarding the Devo concert I attended at the Buffalo Town Ballroom in Mid-July of 2010.  I have been long time fans of the band as long as I can remember.  The opportunity to see this band was really exciting.  I went to the show with my good friend Bennett and also my former girlfriend Kira.  We started the trip listening to Devo albums to get us in the mood and also to familiarize ourselves with thier new 2010 release “Something For Everybody”.  This album is Devo’s first release since the early 90s, so it is pretty exciting for Devo followers.

Before I show the pictures from the show I will give a little background on the band.  Devo is a New Wave/Synth Pop band that came out of Akron Ohio.  They released thier first album in 1978 and in my opinion was a very groundbreaking album.  They then released albums each year from the late 70s to the mid 80s that all had great songs and the classic Devo sound that I came to love.  The bands creative spark burned out after their 1980 masterpiece “Freedom of Choice”.  Since that album the band would release some good singles here and there but they would never reach the height of their early albums.  2010 marks a huge year for Devo because of its new album which was far better than anything they released since the early 80s.  The album had classic Devo sound with new production values that makes a very interesting album.  The concert I went to was to promote this album but the band made sure to play all thier classics.  I have been to many concerts but this one is by far the most enjoyable.

This is a picture of the audience at the concert.  The Ballroom was a really great venue because we were so close to the band.  I am in the front row with my friends.  Despite some drunk people in the audience everyone was having a great time and it was much more interactive than sitting in a seat far away from the band.  We were literally two feet away from the band.

Here is another picture that shows the entire venue.  There was the mosh section that I was in and then there was the seating section in the back.  I was very happy with how close we got to the band and the audio was not too loud either so it worked out great.

Here is a good picture I took showing the band in their classic yellow jump suites.  At this point they were playing there older material which I enjoyed the most.  Since Devo is so well known for thier outfits it was only fitting that the band showcased every era through the costumes.  After Devo played this set they ripped off thier yellow suites and threw them into the audience only to show the next outfit they were wearing.

Here is Mark Mothersbaugh who is the lead singer.  He was a great show man and really brought excitement to the event.  It’s amazing that he is in his sixties and still has the energy to perform like this.

This is a projector that they had playing on throughout the show.  This particular video is the Devo Corporate anthem.  They played this as they were getting prepared for the next set.

This is Mark again in the “Booji Boy” costume from early era Devo.  It was amazing to watch him play this character as if it was the early 80s again.

I consider myself very fortunate that I was able to recover the pic that Bob 1, the main guitarist, used during the show.  It is framed on my wall with my ticket and a copy of a Devo album.  Yes I am a nerd.  The bouncy ball was just one of many that Marc threw out to the audience from his fanny pack.

This is a professional picture taken by a photographer that shows in more detail the stage setup.  I was fortunate enough to be able to see the band in this quality live.

This is my last picture I managed to recover.  This is showing Mark, Gerald Casale, and Bob 1 who have been with the band since the beginning.  It was amazing to see all these guys play their songs so convincingly.  It didn’t even matter that these guys are old dudes, they still rocked.  All things considered this was the most entertaining concert I have ever been to and was worth the admission price.

Making Money Activity

I signed up for an amazon associates account.  I was able to feature a link in one of my blogs.  From this link one can purchase various albums by some of the artists I talked about.  For the second task, I looked at a Coke blog.  The blog talked about many coke related things and showed some new products. Video Podast Review #2

This was about a 3 minute show that was concerned with random internet oddities and the latest memes.  It was mediocre in originality and would have been really boring if it were any longer.  Overall they could have done a better job…not everyone can be Daniel Tosh.  So basically it was a look at new fads on the internet and making jokes around them.  There was also a section on people who adapt classic rock albums like Dark Side of the Moon into video game music.  That part was kinda interesting.  The video is on OVU and is by epic-fu.

Video Blog Review #1

I watched a six minute video cast.  The creators describe it as a”parody fan film made with action figures and cool effects.”  It was pretty entertaining watching action figures play out a hypothetical “Alien 5”.  You could tell that it was pretty low budget but a lot of work probably went into making it look somewhat believable.  The humor was kinda cheesy at moments but for a short little six minute video it was worth watching.  I watched the episode at videopodcasts.tv

New Media and Society

Here is the full article.  The title is “New Media and Society”  This is a new literature review that I am submitting.  The article is concerned with social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook.  More specifically it is concerned with the possible negative consequences that could arise through the use of these sites.  The main issue in question is asking if kids provide too much information in their profiles.  By too much information, the author is talking about personal information that could get into the hands of possible sexual predators.  The article suggests that according to research trend study, most kids are making good choices and not disclosing information that could cause harm.  The study is in direct correlation with concerns from the media and parents who have become aware of the increasing threat of online predators who use social networks to operate.

There are many possible ways someone could put themselves at risk using the internet.  The risk of identity theft and unsafe release of personal information are a constant element of using the internet.  I feel people should keep this in mind at all times.  I especially feel that while using social networking sites, one makes themselves even more susceptible to predators.  In most cases the idea of being careful on sites like Facebook is common sense.  However it seems that since incidents still occur, one must sill keep in mind the possible dangers that go along with social networks.

Parents have the full right to be concerned about their children’s safety on the internet.  However, when thinking of the big picture the media does have a tendency to exploit the latest phenomenon whatever it may be.  This is not to say that internet safety is unnecessary, but suggests that media hype may not justify the level of fear parents may have.  Personally, when using Facebook I take all the proper measures to avoid an unwanted occurrence.  As far as the general public is concerned, parents that feel their kids are not mature enough to understand internet safety, should explain what is at stake and be informative.

I think avoiding social networks altogether because of a possible threat is to through away a very useful resource.  Social networking seems to be a very permanent trend in new media and will continue to be a great marketing tool and social tool.  According to the study in the article, not only are many people very careful with what they post in there profiles, many have stopped using networks altogether.  I think that if one is enjoying their social network and is responsible enough there shouldn’t be to much of an issue.  I think the most important part of this article is the fact that the study, which was conducted on a large amount of random kids shows that the majority are internet safe.  This trend in internet safety could suggest that since social networks have been around for a few years, people are becoming more versed in using the sites to their advantage and most importantly safely.  The positive trend in internet safety will only prove to expand the possibilities of social networks and develop media format that is still in its infancy.  (THIS IS A LITERATURE REVIEW RE-SUBMITTED)
